Heywood Wakefield is prominently known for its bold and funky designs, but few know that they also dabbled in a lighter touch with a Scandinavian-inspired line of furniture throughout the 50s and 60s. Proving that their keen eye was no fluke, they produced a desk that avoids the pitfalls American manufacturers often run into with their takes on Danish Modernism: heavy-set features, inattention to detail, and inelegant proportions for the sake of rigid construction. Instead, it's obvious Heywood Wakefield understood the philosophy underpinning the Danish aesthetic and managed to apply their brand of craftsmanship to that without sacrificing the qualities that make Danish furniture so desirable, and if it weren't for the 100% solid wood build, it would be easy to mistake it for an imported model. Full of elegant arcs, tapers, and a light airy profile make this a proud addition to a home.
The floating pedestals have two drawers each, and it can be positioned on either the left or right side. Back side is fully finished, so there's no need to keep the desk up against a wall.
Restored to emphasize the natural characteristics of the wood. The wood is likely Elm.
